PROJECT INTRODUCTION

The leadership of Wise County is moving forward towards securing industry and strengthening the local economy. The results - jobs, job security, and the stabilization of the family unit to STAY IN WISE COUNTY!

It is the desire of Camp Bethel to support the County's initiative by complimenting these endeavors through the development of Synergy Park, a life changing experience to all that may visit!

“Synergy Park will provide an experience for those who enjoy skateboarding and inline skating, an educations and hands-on instructional opportunity building strong minds and bodies, and a family-oriented opportunity rejuvenating the Wise County youth, teens and adults!”

The growth and success of Wise County's future lies not in the industry brought in, but in the families grown from within. Camp Bethel is excited about what Synergy Park has to offer and WE WANT YOU AND YOUR ORGANIZATION TO BE A PART OF WISE COUNTY'S GROWTH!

WHY A SKATE PARK?

There are a lot of skaters within the boundaries of Wise County, however without a place to practice their sport many people don't even know they exist. The skaters pick up their boards and their families and travel to Kingsport, Abingdon, and as far away as Rogersville to practice their sport.

Action sports are not Just a “hobby” or a “fad” anymore, they're here to stay! They started in the 1950's and have been growing dramatically every since. The total number of individuals engaged in action sports in 2000 was well over 32.5 million, that is twice as many youth who are playing baseball. Skateboarding is the fastest-growing “extreme” sport in the U.S. This growth has occurred because of the overall action sports trend, the activity's appeal as a spectator sport, expanded TV coverage for skateboarding, and Its high visibility In the video game market.

Extreme sports are athletic, social, challenging, safe and clean. The only thing that distinguishes these activities from others like baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, is that the participants have no place to play in Wise County!

It's no wonder that so many of our areas athletes use public property to practice their sport. The goal of a skate park is to get them off of street and public property where they pose risks to themselves and the community - and into a skate park where they can challenge themselves in a safer environment.

Data collected in a 1998 national survey found fewer injuries as a result of skateboarding or in-line skating than baseball, basketball, football, and ice hockey. The most significant injures associated with this sport are auto accidents as a result of practicing the sport in the street, rather than in a park!

PROJECT LOCATION

Synergy Park will be located inside Camp Bethel in the northwest corner of the playing field, just adjacent to the lake. The camp's active intermediate ropes course will be relocated closer to the lake to accommodate the Park, yet remain adjacent to the Park, thereby concentrating the Camp's extreme sports into one location.

The Synergy Park will be available for use by all members of the public who agree to respect and help take care of the grounds. We want the park to remain a clean place that families and athletes can enjoy and be proud of.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Our goal with the Synergy Skate Park is to provide a safe, fun, clean, FREE place for skaters to practice their sport. Without the help of the public and your financial support, this project cannot become a reality. We hope that you will invest in our mission and invest in the children of Wise County!

In order to start our project, we must secure funding for the foundation of the park, the 10.000 sq. ft. concrete slab. We hope that you will pledge a donation and become part of the foundation of this project!

“A skate park will allow the public to practice their art in a safe environment. Kingsport built their skate park after a child lost his life while skating on the streets; Help make ours a reality before our area has to suffer the same loss!”
-  Dru Morgan
