Jim Kerr - Chair (Staunton, VA; Joined in 1995)
I was first introduced to Camp Bethel when "Uncle John" was deputizing at my home church. I was never able to enjoy Camp Bethel as a camper but was able to serve on the summer staff for 5 different years, and was thoroughly blessed to be used by God to impact others and then to be impacted by others. When Donnie Henry invited me to consider joining the Board of Directors, I was quick to sign-up as I wanted to do whatever I could to help Camp Bethel to continue to be a place that impacts lives for Christ. For over 30 years I have served in three different Christian ministries as an educator, coach, adviser, and administrator. My family attends Community Fellowship Church in Staunton, VA. I have enjoyed playing, coaching, and being a fan of sports, playing and listening to music, and reading biographies and historical works. I also spend way too much time playing computer games. |
Fred Wright - Vice Chair (Atlanta, GA; Joined in 2014)
I was a camper one summer and member of Junior Staff at Camp for three summers. God used the ministry of Camp Bethel to impact my life, and I was blessed to participate in the evangelistic outreach. I am still blessed to participate. Currently I am a consultant in cybersecurity in Atlanta, GA at Big Picture Enterprises, LLC., serve as an adjunct professor in the Georgia Tech School of Computer Science, and am an instructor in Georgia Tech’s Professional Education program. Previously, I served as a Fellow at the Georgia Tech Research Institute, where I led the Cyberspace Initiative. It has also been my pleasure to served as a board member at Intown Community School in Atlanta. My wife and I have been blessed with four children (two adopted) and we attend Intown Community Church. I am an avid outdoorsman and enjoy travel and photography. |
Dee Stanley - Treasurer (Wise, VA; Joined in 1993)
At the age of ten, when John Henry asked if there was anyone in my 5th grade class at Pound Elementary School who wanted to learn more about having our sins forgiven, and I was eager to listen to what he had to tell me. It was that day I gave my life to Christ, and my love for Camp Bethel Ministries started growing.
Although I learned all the memory verses needed to get a free week at camp, I was never able to attend. However, when I was blessed with the opportunity to become a board member in 1993, it felt like the Lord had brought me full circle, and the memory verses I’d learned were now being rewarded. There’s not enough words to describe the joy this position has brought me, and my daily prayer is to be as big a blessing to this ministry as it has been to me. As a Business Education major, graduating from UVA Wise, I taught school for several years before stepping down and starting my own business, Tax TIme Income Tax & Accounting Service. In 2016 I decided to give up the accounting side and declared myself semi-retired, working only during income tax season. My husband, Greg, and I have been married 40 years and were blessed with two sons. We have five grandchildren, ages 21, 16, 15, 14, and 5, and the older ones have grown up at Camp Bethel, starting when they were 4 years old. Our youngest started last year and is so excited about attending again this summer, while the older ones plan to serve on staff. |
Teresa Collier - Secretary (Pound, VA; Joined in 2005)
As a lifelong resident of Wise County, I have grown up with the influence of Camp Bethel Ministries. From the visits by John Henry to my school as a child, to the camping experiences I enjoyed as a church youth group leader, to the privilege of sending my grandchildren to summer camp, and now as a member of the Camp Bethel Board of Directors, this ministry has enriched my life. I have been an employee of the Lonesome Pine Office on Youth for nearly 20 years where I am blessed to work with children and families in crisis. I also am Coordinator for the LPOY-CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Program which involves services to children of abuse and neglect in our area. My husband, Terry and I reside in Pound, Va. and have three grown children and 8 grandchildren! We are busy and blessed. |
